August Rush

My drug test was painless, but being able to take it was a pain. There was a lot of traffic on the way to the clinic, even at 10am when everyone should be at work already. During the times when there wasn’t as much traffic, I was stuck behind really slow cars. I always thought I was a slow driver, but these people were going half the speed limit for no reason. Once I reached the clinic, I waited 45 minutes to take my drug test! I don’t understand why I would have to wait that long. My drug test took a grand total of five minutes: wash hands, pee in a cup, wash hands, sign form, and leave. With that kind of process, I would expect the wait time to be much shorter. Oh well.

I’m pretty patient in general. If I had nowhere else to be after the drug test, I wouldn’t have been bothered by the traffic or the waiting. The problem was that I was meeting my friend for lunch during his lunch break, so I wanted to get in and get out as quickly as possible. I did end up having lunch with him, but it was a little more rushed than I would have liked.

After lunch, I drove to a nearby movie theatre and saw August Rush. I sometimes like to see movies by myself, especially if none of my friends want to see the movie (like when I saw the Lizzie McGuire movie). I’ve been wanting to see August Rush since I first saw a preview for it about a month ago, but I had to wait until after I finished my exam to see it.

I really liked August Rush. Freddie Highmore is one of my favorite child actors, and he was brilliant in this movie. I don’t think I would have liked the movie half as much if there was a different actor cast instead of him. He’s a really cute kid, and just seeing him in the movie makes you empathize with him. I’ve always liked Keri Russell too (she actually reminds me of one of my friends from college); I think she’s absolutely beautiful. The movie was really touching, had lots of great music, and left me wanting more. An added bonus was that Becki Newton, who plays Amanda on Ugly Betty, makes a cameo in the movie. Awesome.
